Surrounded by clean, clear and warm waters of Indian Ocean and beautifully-designed to provide you a true luxury surf holiday, perfect service, plenty of dining options and accommodation in stunning studios and pavillons, each with own pool.

Dhaalu is relatively unchartered area that offers quality waves without too many crowds. This area has only recently been discovered by surf charters, and there aren't any other resorts in this area.

This beautiful resort offers 7 dining options, including an amazing and the world's first underwater club serving brilliant cocktails and offering live music by international DJs.

Lime Spa at Niyama will spoil you with luxurious treatments in private rooms.

Imagine yourself surfing perfect waves in pristine and warm waters, then come back to the resort for a massage to revive and relax you. Then finish your day together with an amazing dinner at one of the fine-dining restaurant and cocktails in the underwater club.

Surfboards:

Seaplane transfers

  • boards should be no longer than 7ft. However, 6.5ft is easier to accommodate. Furthermore, a full bag of 3-5 boards is extremely difficult for the sea plane to accommodate. However, no board bag gets left behind. In a situation where luggage gets bumped, it is put on the next sea plane or a domestic flight and arrives later that day to Niyama.

Domestic flights

  • the stated guidelines are no more than 7ft. If you want to fly with your boards, the domestic is a good option as the plane is bigger. If you want the sea plane experience, your board can fly domestic and you can go by sea plane - the board will just arrive later that day.

For both aircrafts:

- The surfboard weight is included in the check in luggage allowance of 20 kg per person. If it exceeds, the charge is USD 5 per kg

- If the surfboard cannot be taken on the same flight due to weight restrictions on the seaplane, the surfboard will be taken on the next seaplane flight or the next domestic flight. If it is bumped to the next flight, whether sea plane or domestic, there is no charge.

- Niyama's supply boat is also available to take boards, but requires specific timing. It leaves Male Tue/Fri, bound for Niyama and arrives the next morning Wed/Fri (8-10am weather dependent). It then returns Mon/Thur 5am and arrives in Male around 3pm. This isn’t recommended, but is a possibility for people that want to bring SUP’s, etc. Niyama could also arrange a speedboat to bring boards, but it will be chargeable.

Sometimes, when departing, boards need to fly back to Male sooner on an earlier flight, or a day before - IF there will be many surfboards on a flight.

  • Please note that maximum size of surfboards allowed on Maldives domestic flights is 7 ft including the boardbag.

Surfing

Dhaalu Atoll

The main break outside Kudahuvadhoo island is a right-hander called Mauroofs. It works best on light north/nowthwest winds and a good southwest swell.

There is a left hander off the resort which can be a tricky one and would bese suit at least intermediate surfers because it can be described as shifty, heavy and shallow. This left works on a south-west swell with light north-east winds.

From the resort, on the other side, there's an island called Maaemboodhoo which has another right hander called Maaemboodhoo which is a short hollow barrell-riding wave. Needs west/southwest winds and a south-west swell which needs to be above 14 seconds for the swell to get into that break. It is quite shallow.

All these spots need mid to high tide to work properly.

Thaa Atoll

This area is consistent in south-west monzoon season and offers some beautiful, long wrapping reef setups. This area was only recently accessed by boats only, but now you can stay at Niyama and enjoy daily transfers.

On Thaa, left-hander Malik's can offer quality barrells and Bowling Alley is a deep-water peak nearby.

Outside and Inside Mikados are powerful right-handers that need opposite conditions to work. Outside is best on high tide and N-NW winds, whereas Inside Mikados is best on SW wind, and works good on mid to high tide.

Niyama Resort offers the following surf services. Please enquire about the current prices.

  • SURF PASS (2.5 hours out at the breaks, with guide and boat).
  • SURF LESSON (2.5 hours for the beginner with instructor and includes board rental and boat).
  • TOW SURFING (with jet ski at an extra charge) plus SURF PASS.
  • BOARD RENTAL.

We're back and wish we were still there .
It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
I'll give you more details later, but you must know this: I surfed almost everyday. Somedays were bad (wind). Other were Epic.
It's astonishing how the swell behaves in Niyama (consistently overhead, somedays, like the day of the video I'm attaching, with 1,5 overhead set waves - so roughly 2 meters). I'm regular when surfing and the left was my playground (not because it was the resident wave but because it was SO good).

Keep in touch and thanks for everything, you were right, it was amazing.

I truly had an amazing week. The resort really lives up to the highest standards. Besides the obvious luxury, they treat you very personal and the their surf program is by far the best,  I've experienced in the Maldives. I loved every single Restaurant they had on the Island.
Thank you so much for getting me there!

Andrew (August 2013)

Wow!!! This was truly amazing! I have never wrote a review before, but Niyama deserves it! We went to Niyama on our honeymoon and it was the best decision we made. The GM Nigel greeted us with his staff when we landed and we got taken on a tour around the island. Later that afternoon we were invited to a cocktail party on the roof bar to watch the sunset and Nigel spent time getting to know everyone of his guests. The restaurant just of the island is a must to go to. We went at 5.15pm to have a cocktails and watch the sunset and it was truly amazing.I highly recommend going to Niyama for the best experience of the Maldives! I really can not wait to go back for our anniversary in the future.

Paradise in every way....From the moment you get into the NIYAMA lounge at the airport. All the staff were very friendly. The Restaurants are great, we had many Romantic dinners on the beach.. There is a underwater water night club sub six, with a fine dinning restaurant in the middle of the Ocean!! it's the place to be!Great place to see Dolphins..They call NIYAMA natures's playground.. This is very true...

Chris (March 2014)

What a truly beautiful resort, an amazing team, and good leadership make the experience so enjoyable. It's by far the only place that I've really relaxed, yet enables you to keep in touch with the excellent wifi facilities. They have certainly found the formula, an exotic setting being backed up by a team that actually enjoy making your stay so enjoyable, from the excellent rooms, the wonderful dining, to the efficient administration, well done Nigel for your dedication in making it all possible. The resort should come with a warning however, once you arrive, you'll definitely won't want to leave!Thank You All
