Only up to 6 surfers share this legend of a boat, the Sri Noa Noa: a classic, recently refurbished 46 foot Phinisi built in Bali that has pioneered the waters east of Bali for 25 years now. Whilst also offering the classic Lombok / Sumbawa route, this trip explores the lesser known areas of Sumba, Rote and Timor. These routes are all about no crowds with many sessions that you will most likely have to yourself. Let the crew take care everything else whilst you simply enjoy the ocean and hit the waves. The Sri Noa Noa is the only charter boat in Indonesia offering not only very flexible trips dates and lengths, but also exclusivity at an affordable price for smaller groups of 3-6 people.

Quick Facts
    • Flexible trip dates and lengths
    • Small groups of max. 4 - 6 people
    • Uncrowded waves
    • Sumba, Rote & Timor
    • Access to all equipment – Fishing and Snorkeling
    • Famous waves like T-Land, Miller’s Rights and plenty of secret spots.
    • Experienced crew and great captain

Sri Noa Noa is a 46’ single-masted schooner built in Benoa / Bali that will take you to all the breaks of Sumba, Savu, Roti & Timor, most of which are only accessible by sea. Plan your own itinerary & surf legendary waves including T-Land & Miller’s Right and many more lesser known breaks where their dinghy will drop you right at the waves. The Sri Noa Noa is designed for small groups of family and/or friends with a maximum of 4 - 6 guests.

All trip lengths are flexible.

SUMBA - MENGKUDU - SUMBA - min. 7 nights, max. 11 nights

Another standout, this 7 - 11 night charter is focussing on the best Sumba has to offer. Sumba is 3 times larger than Bali and is home to about 10-15 spots of which only few are very known. While Nihiwatu stays a forbidden fruit unless staying at the resort, it’s the most famous but not the best wave in the area and the Sri Noa Noa knows the other ones.

The trip starts in Waingapu (East Sumba), where we pick you up from the airport & transfer you straight to the Sri Noa Noa. We aim immediately for the first spot, arriving the next morning for a first surf offering a couple of fun breaks.

The next days, you will then make an overnight crossing to the islands of Mengkudu, where there is a long, powerful left as well as a right on the backside of the island on the right conditions. From here on, you will continue moving westward passing all the gems Sumba has to offer. A trip to Sumba wouldn’t be complete without surfing Terimbang (better known as Miller’s Right), a well known, consistent yet still uncrowded right-hander that is simply spectacular on a solid swell. Sessions here are a highlight of each trip.

Apart from the great surf, Sumba is very rich in ancient culture and we strongly recommend to visit one of the iconic, monolithic villages around. The fishing is fantastic, with tuna, GT and Spanish mackerel regularly caught. When time is up, we return to the port of Waikelo on the Western tip of Sumba and transfer you to Tambolaka airport for your flight back to Bali.
Did you know? In fact, it was aboard the Sri Noa Noa in 1993 that big wave legend Mike Miller and friends named the right at Terimbang now better know’s as Miller’s Right but that's another story.....

This Trip can be run from from mid March to mid June as well as from August - late November.

ROTE - SAVU - SUMBA – min. 10 nights, max. 15 nights

This is an epic charter covering some very remote surf spots in the eastern end of the archipelago. It’s the owners' favorite trip and one you won’t forget…

Starting in Kupang, you will spend a few days around Rote before heading westward to the beautiful islands of Savu and Raijua, which have classic surf on the right conditions.

From Raijua, the journey continues westward to Sumba. Starting at the southern most point, you will explore the coastline around majestic Mengkudu & neighbouring islands all the way to the western most point before finally disembarking in Waikelo (Tambolaka Airport) on the sheltered north-west part of the island.

This trip is not for the faint-hearted as the surf can get big, there's a couple of overnight crossings of open waters and some of the anchorages along the coast of Sumba are fairly average. You are however guaranteed a unique surf adventure with plenty of uncrowded world-class waves, both lefts and rights.

Your captain Heri and the Sri Noa Noa crew have been taking this route for many years and have pioneered many of these breaks.

This Trip can be run from April - mid June as well as from mid August - mid November.
ROTE – min. 8 nights - max. 12 nights
After a morning flight from Denpasar to Kupang (West Timor), the driver picks you up from the airport & transfers you straight to the Sri Noa Noa. You then set sail for Rote, arriving early next morning. Nemberala (sometimes also called T-Land) is the main break in the area, a long left-hander, similar to G-land when the swell gets up. The surf on Rote is consistent and offshore, and there are numerous lefts and rights on Rote & the nearby islands of Dana, Ndao & Doa, all offering perfection and still surprisingly empty.

Waves suit all standards, ranging from mellow to hollow. You will most likely make base at Nemberala, the longest and most consistent left in the area. From here you have the choice of about 6 other waves (lefts and rights) within a 2 hour radius.  Your captain Heri, knows the place very well, so you just work in with him to decide where to surf.

The game fishing is fantastic, with giant trevally, tuna, mackerel and sailfish often caught. Lobster & squid are often brought to onboard by the local fishermen and then cooked up on their barbecue on deck! After your time is up, it's back to Kupang.
This Trip can be run from April - June as well as from mid August - late November.
Captain & Crew

The 3 English-speaking, Indonesian crew includes the captain Heri, a chef and an engineer. These friendly, chatty guys work tirelessly to make your trip comfortable and nothing is too much trouble for them. Their experience in the areas they visit will make your trip a raving success.
The Sri Noa Noa was built in 1977 by Philippe Petiniaud, a world-class sailor and adventurer. It features one double bed and three single beds in the well ventilated, fan-cooled cabins, with linen included. On top, if more than 4 guests on a charter, there are two more beds upstairs that often end up being often guests' favorites. Plus, there is plenty of space on their chill out deck for those who like to sleep under the stars. While she’s not a luxury boat, the Sri Noa Noa is a very solid Phinisi that has been customized over the years to make for an exclusive surf charter trip for small groups, excelling with charm, lack of crowds and an experienced crew.

Other Surf Experiences

Richard (June 2015)
The Perfect Boat trip that had epic waves, sick weather and non stop good times from the Captain and Crew. Nothing was ever an effort in organising the trip and the countless emails back and forth to Charlie at the Perfect Wave. He went to every length to ensure our trip was awesome and it was. He guided us on the waves to surf based on our ability and organised a great boat called the Sri Noa Noa. I couldn't recommend the boat, Captain, Crew (awesome Chef with 3 massive meals each day) and the surf locations enough..... Literally surf Vid perfect waves with no one around. Every bloke on the trip agreed that it's now an annual!

Simon (July 2010)

Hey Richie, Not sure if the boys have made contact, but just a short note to says thanks for all your help in preparing an absolutely all time holiday. We got great waves every day. The day we got there the swell picked up after a 2 week lull. Great timing. Great crew, boat, waves, fishing, Nemberala bar, Wida etc. etc. All time.
