Surf & Other Activities

The Tagahzout region is blessed with a multi-aspect coastline which means on any given day a wide range of waves can be found to suit the whole spectrum of abilities, likewise there are spots to suit an array of swell, tide, and wind variations. 99% of the time there is always somewhere to surf. Intermediates and those new to the sport should not be put off or worried; there is nearly always somewhere sheltered and manageable. Stay at Surf Maroc and they will take you there.

The summer months (April - October) see small to medium swells with surfing mostly taking place on the beaches and reefs on the more exposed north west coast, this is great time for anyone looking for fun, uncrowded warm water surf. During the winter months (October - March) the waves that have made Morocco famous come to life and world class surf and leg-achingly long rides are an everyday occurrence.

Add in some near perfect weather conditions (300 days of sunshine a year, an average temperature Nov-Feb of 21C, water temperature 18C) and you've got all the makings of an ideal surf trip.

  • Tamri – A friendly beach break suitable for all levels, Tamri is a swell magnet - one of Morocco's best beach breaks. Always offshore in the mornings.
  • Boilers – Fast, long right hand point break with a great inside barrel section.  This is one of the most consistent breaks and is recommended for intermediate to advance due to the currents and rocks.  Offshore most of the time.
  • Killers – Famous sand bottomed, world class right hand point break, 250m rides are likely when there's decent swell.  There's a great lefthander when small.
  • Mysteries and the Source – Beautiful right-hand reef with sand channels. Steep and hollow take off then mellows into a fun and very rippable right hand wall.
  • Anchors – Probably the most famous wave in Morocco. It is a long world class right hand point break with long, mellow walls providing some of the best fast peeling barrel sections.  Anchors is suitable for long and short board riders, intermediate to advanced only.
  • Devils Rock – Peaky beachy right in front of a village, fun for all levels.
  • Imsouanne - one of the longest rights in the world, perfect for beginners, intermediates and longboarders.  Can turn to world class when the swell gets big enough
  • Banana Point – mellow right hand point that breaks over sand, long walls perfect for longboarders.

Other Surf Experiences

Tim Hayward (September 2017),

We had an amazing time to be honest, we surfed 12 days out of the 14 (which meant I didn’t do much yoga as too tired!!), Devils Rock, Banana Beach, 11/12, Anza and 5 trips to Imsouane which was incredible.

Stuart (December 2016)

Booking with perfect wave was simple and easy. My stay with Surfmaroc was even better than I expected

Tim (November 2016)
Fantastic staff from cleaners to hosts all worked together to make everything perfect. Surf guides super cool and knowledgeable ensuring we found best possible surf each day.
Always felt looked after from booking with Suzi to leaping off rocks at "Draculas".

James (June 2016)
For a surfing holiday I would not consider any company other than Perfect Wave. They are knowledgeable about their products, can help to tailor-make your holiday, and are efficient in their organisation of the practicalities. I have enjoyed 2 holidays with them, once as a solo traveller, once with my girlfriend, and on both holidays made good friends with many other nationalities, all with a mutual interest in surfing and yoga. You can book through Perfect Wave with confidence.

Tim (November 2015)
From booking to arriving home the trip was perfect for me - A new solo traveller seeking good waves on a budget. I got both, and totally enjoyed the whole week.
Definitely scored wave of my life at Mysteries!
The staff were fantastic, surf guide Hicham knew where to go and when, and the other travellers were super cool and friendly, from all parts of the world. I didn't feel the need to leave the villa all week - It was perfect.

Steven (September 2015)

Catherine (September 2015)
Thank you for the fantastic holiday, as a first time solo traveller I was a bit nervous about travelling on my own but the whole process was so easy from booking right to the end of my holiday. The Villa was gorgeous overlooking the ocean and had a real Moroccan feel to it. Traditional Moroccan food served every night and the staff were all very helful. Best of all as a Begineer Surfer I managed to stand up on the board.

Anthony (January 2015)

Villa was amazing staff were fantastic and food was also great. This was one of the best holidays I have had. A big thank you to everyone at surf maroc and to all the surf instructors which made this such an amazing holiday.

John (September 2014)

Surf Maroc provide the complete chill-out/surf experience!
I stayed in Taghazout Villa for 10 days in Oct/Nov and everything about the experience was simply superb.
There are a number of surf camps running in and around Taghazout but Surf Maroc really have the pick of the spot with Taghazout Villa, which is right on the seafront and has a fabulous, quirky charm to its layout. The lovely atmosphere draws upon far more than architectural layout alone though and it is Tom, the manager, ably assisted by Rosie who really go out of their way to make you feel completely at home from the very outset. But Tom and Rosie are masters of quiet efficiency and understated competence - they ensure that everything runs smoothly and with clockwork precision and yet without ever appearing rushed or stressed - which creates a wonderfully relaxing vibe while making the very most of the opportunities to surf. Tom always kept us informed so we were never left wondering what was happening, and I really appreciated the prompt departures at 0845 - when many other surf camps are still only thinking about loading up for the day. The guides were fantastic too - friendly and knowledgeable, they always knew where to go to get the best waves, and they were also flexible, happy to accommodate the odd early start or late finish to suit the tides.
Or just chill! The Villa, which is kept spotlessly clean, was a great place to just hang out and unwind when one’s tired and aching muscles needed a day to recover!
Yoga - offered every evening on the idyllic terrace overlooking the ocean - and despite exhausting myself in the ocean on a daily basis, the expert instruction from Tara and Jenny was fabulously restorative and allowed me to plunge back into the sea time and again to do it all over again!
Meals - a great selection of freshly prepared food, and always more than enough, catering to all dietary preferences and with breakfast and dinner served at a large communal table which made for a really convivial start and end to every day.
Gear - I hired a board from the Surf Maroc shop which is very conveniently located right next door; they had a great range of boards to choose from and the board I selected was in reasonable condition, with the inevitable superficial dings of a hire board.
Overall, Taghazout Villa has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and yet everything runs like clockwork, with the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation and punctuality - all without intruding upon that terribly important, mellow and friendly vibe. Time in the water is maximised and the guides get you to the best spots before they get busy. Such things do not happen by chance and credit belongs to the professionalism of the entire Surf Maroc team, but especially to the personal energy and leadership of Tom, the villa manager, who is stalwartly supported by the wonderful Rosie.
Thanks Guys!

Jessica (September 2014)

Awesome place, great surf, really good food and above all a Fantastic Team who makes sure that all you need to care about is enjoying your holidays!
I can't wait to go back!!
