The 24-meter (80ft) Kai Satu is an excellent value for money surf charter. Ideal for groups of 8 to 12 surfers, it’s run by crew of Mentawai veterans focused on making sure you get the most out of your 9 to 12-day trip. Taking into account your group’s skill level and the swell forecast, the experienced surf guide and captain will have determined before you even set foot on board in Padang, which part of the Mentawai chain is best suited for you, from Telos in the North, to Playgrounds in the South, or any other of the overwhelming choice of spots in between. They’re also more than happy to arrange for a pro photographer to come along and record your exploits surfing the world-class Indonesian waves.

The comfort and service aboard are as spot on as the experience in the water. All 6 of the twin cabins as well as the TV, DVD, stereo-equipped lounge area are air-conditioned. There are two full bathrooms with hot water showers, as well as an outdoor shower for rinsing off after getting out of the surf. The chill out area on the top deck offers fantastic views of the postcard worthy waves and nearby islands covered in lush, green vegetation. It’s where guests spend most of their time (when they’re not surfing) watching sunrises, sunsets and enjoying ice cold Bintangs.

As any surf charter boat worth its salt, the Kai Satu also provides guests with snorkeling and fishing gear for taking advantage of the teeming Mentawai sea life however they see fit in between surf sessions.

Here’s what a few satisfied guests had to say about their experiences on the Kai Satu.

“The boys and myself had the most amazing Mentawai trip aboard the Kai Satu. The vessel itself was great, the food was awesome and our legend of a surf guide clearly had a wealth of knowledge of the islands ensuring we were at the right spots at the right times to maximize our stoke!”Matt

“I have been on the Kai Satu three times and each trip just gets better. The surf guide is always on the money with the calls he makes and aside from keeping all the guests stoked on the variety of surf on offer, he still seems to find unlimited energy to entertain once the sun sets. Good food, cold beer and great service sets the Kai Satu and its crew apart from the rest.” – Craig

The Kai Satu is also the go-to boat for 4-time New Zealand national champion Jarred Hancox to organize his coaching trips that are gaining in popularity with guests:

Jarred Hancox was awesome to have on the boat with us. His surf coaching and guiding were invaluable. Not only does he rip and inspire others to do the same, he has a great manner and attention to detail. He’s always keeping a close eye on conditions, the forecast and the line-up. When it comes to coaching, he observes and gives you pointers that help your surfing immensely. His tips on surfing and equipment really advanced my surfing.” – Glen
