Accommodation

A Day at the Surfcamp

A day at the Algarve Surf School & Camp begins around 9am with some chilled music to wake you up. After you make your way downstairs, you will find a breakfast to revive you after the night before and prepare you for a day of surfing.

Fresh rolls from the bakery, cereals, fruit, coffee and tea for your breakfast, and ham, cheese, salad and sauces for you to make a sandwich for the beach. After breakfast, around10am everyone gets their stuff together, the guys load the surf board son the Jeep and drive you down to the beach. Usually this will be Praiado Amado (where the surf school is), but they simply choose which spot is working best.

Once everyone gets to the beach equipment is handed out to each client. Please note, that you will be responsible for your wet suit and your surfboard for the whole week. Then you will be split into a group to match your level of surfing.

After the morning lesson, it's time to relax your muscles and minds from surfing.Chill out at the beach, take your lunch, or have a nap to re-risen forth afternoon session. In the afternoon there will be another 1h30 surf lesson.

After the surf everyone hangs at the beach for a while, watching the waves, having a beer, or enjoying the sunset. Then everything is packed up and they head back to the Hostel. This will usually be around 6 or 6.30p.m., then its time to take a hot shower and start the evening with a beer at the bar, or a relaxed game of pool.

Around 8pm dinner is served. This is always a main dish, like bacalhau, chicken curry, pasta, or one of their famous BBQs, along with it soup, salad and bread.  The dinners are extra and cost around 8 to 12€

In the evening you can relax, watch TV, play some pool or have a chat about the day and the latest surf news.

Surf & Other Activities
Surf
  • Praia do Amado (West): Most famous surf spot. Large sandy beach with dunes ideal for beginners - this is where many surf schools do their teaching. Only holds up to two metres. Respect the locals!
  • Carrapateira/Bordeira (West): Adjacent to Praia do Amado. Great surf spot with a sandy beach accessed through a lagoon surrounded by dunes. Perfect for beginners, but watch out for the undercurrent. Great left handers if the banks are working!
  • Arrifana (West): North of Carrapateira, a scenic surf spot showcased by a high cliff topped by a picturesque whitewashed village. Beach break, usually half the size of other west coast beaches - good when others are too big. To the right of the beach, you have a good right-hand reef break, but it only breaks with at least 1.5 metre swell. Watch out for the "hamburger" or "Kangaroo" rock. Only for advanced surfers!
  • Sagres (West/South): Europe's south-western most point, this peninsula is surrounded by the Atlantic to the south and the west, providing numerous surf spots and surfing options according to swell conditions.
  • PraiaMeia (Lagos)
  • Portimao and Faro (South Coast): On the Algarve's southern coast. Surf spots with good breaks offering a good alternative to the western coast when the swell is too big there or when the SE wind (Levante) blows

Thanks to the guys for giving me a great time, I'll definitely come back!
