Perfect Wave caught up with Pete Murray for a quick chat.

How long have you been surfing, Pete?

Pete Murray: I was a late starter with surfing. I only started surfing about 7 years ago.

Where do you do most of your surfing in Aus?

Byron Bay. I live around Byron Bay so there are some great spots around this area.

Do you take a board with you on tour?

I find that there is never any room for my board when I’m on the road. There have been times that I have been offered to borrow someone’s board on the road, so when that happens I’ll take the opportunity and get out there.

Where have you surfed overseas?

I did a trip over to Indonesia about two years ago with Mark Occhilupo (Occy), Mark Gasnier (Gaz) and Ash Grundwald. I was by far the least experienced surfer. Occy (of course an ex world champion) and Gaz both grew up surfing. Ash was a bit of a late starter also, but it was his sixth trip to Indo so he was used to the waves. It was great for me surfing with these guys because they were all teaching me things out in the surf.

Have you been to the Maldives before?

No, I have never been to the Maldives but I have only heard great things about the place. I’m really looking forward to surfing and experiencing the crystal clear water there.

What are you most looking forward to: Surfing, or playing the three exclusive, intimate shows in paradise at Kandooma Resort?

I’d be lying if I didn’t say the surfing, but I think the gigs will be a lot of fun and probably turn into more of a jam session with whoever is there. Live music and drinks on sunset, who wouldn’t enjoy that?

What have you got in mind in terms of set lists? Are you going to mix it up on the three different evenings?

I have enough songs now that I can pretty much play different songs every night. But I’ll be happy to play what everyone wants to hear.

Have you ever played such exclusive kind of gigs for a small group of fans?

No, I have never done anything like this before so I think it will be a great new experience for me and of course a real one off for some special fans.

Should be a blast?

It’s going to be fantastic! Can’t wait.
