Our Kandooma surf guide Rob has sent us the latest Kandooma surf report from the July with a little outlook for August. So how has the surf been? Over to you, Rob!

**********************

The slow monthly start continued again for July in the South Male’ Atoll, however, Kandooma guests were still offered small, playful conditions.

Riptides was the pick of the litter for the first week, our magnet delivering fun, waist to shoulder high crispy clean right-handers only a 15 minute dhoni drive away from the resort.

After the first week, a 1 metre, direct south east swell with an 11 second period dished up head and a half plus high waves with Kandooma Right once again being the finest of choices with beautifully formed right hand almond barrels steaming through day after day, however, all waves throughout the Atoll scored swell.

We have had swell now consistently since the 2nd week of June with only a handful of lay days. I’d have to say it has been the best stretch of swell I’ve seen over a period of 8 weeks being now my 3rd year as a guide on the resort.

The waves over the last few days have dropped back due to a southerly change in the direction of swell, still enough for waist to chest high waves, keeping all the guests happy and with a cap to only 40 surfers on the island and 4 daily boat trips plus Kandooma Right on our doorstep, we are receiving minimal crowds giving guests exactly what they want from their surfing holiday…….. WAVES and more waves!

With the swell predicted to turn to a more favourable south easterly direction Thursday through to the end of the weekend, we will be expecting a swell bump. So if you are on your way over soon, I look forward to seeing you in the line up!!
